Unpopular Opinion: Robots Show Up for Work

Robots and vision system automation can (and do) show up for work, all day, every day.

The decision to automate a manufacturing process traditionally has been based on return on investment (ROI) calculations from production speed (output), material or equipment utilization (efficiency), labor and utility costs, and reduced waste (scrap).

However, over the last few years, the general labor pool has continued to shrink with the lessening of qualified candidates and has been further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

What does this mean for employers?Robotic automation and vision system

It is an extremely unpopular opinion, but automation can fill the stop gap in the labor force. Robots and vision system automation can (and do) show up for work, all day, every day.

Many manual labor positions are no longer sustainable in today’s economy.

ROI calculations are now heavily skewed toward scaling to full automation (as quickly as possible) strictly on labor availability, qualifications, willingness, and hourly wage rates thereby transferring previous jobs to automation out of necessity to continue day to day operations.

Integro can assist manufacturers automate a wide range of inspection tasks: automated sortation, foreign material detection, surface blemishes, dimensional verification, bin picking, robotic pick and place, robotic manipulation for inspection, logistic ID of parcels/letters, presentation scanners, automated pack out of material, pallet inspection, object palletization, and more.
